BANGOR- John
Bapst Memorial High School senior
Kristyn Murphy recently sang her way
to the finals in Reindeer Records'
statewide talent search for Maine's
best high school solo artist.
Murphy will
compete with five other finalists
for the title at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb.
10, at the McAuley Performing Arts
Center in Portland.
The names of the
six finalists were announced Jan. 13
at a talent showcase. Murphy,
the daughter of John and Marylee
Murphy of Orrington, performed three
songs, the last of which was a
patriotic piece dedicated to her
sister's Army National Guard Unit,
Charlie Company 126, currently
deployed to Iraq.
"It is exciting
to have made it to the finals, but
now I really need the help of the
community," Murphy said.
During the Feb.
10 face-off, Murphy's score will be
determined by two percentages.
The judges' scores will count 75
percent, and the other 25 percent
will be determined when audience
members vote by secret ballot.
"It's wonderful
to be able to represent this region
of Maine, and I hope that everybody
who can make it to Portland will
cheer loud and vote," Murphy said.
With the help
from others, Murphy has organized a
street team to coordinate community
support. Individuals or area
groups interested in organizing a
car pool to the Portland event are
encouraged to e-mail
contact@teengracemusic.com.
Admission to the RO4UNO finals is
$10. For information about the
